Simone Schwartz klagt mich auf der Internetseite der NGO Saida International an, nicht journalistisch sorgfältig gearbeitet zu haben und vom “Thema überwältigt” gewesen zu sein.

Meine Antwort: Ich war für die taz im Londoner Old Bailey, und von allen anwesenden Journalisten der aller einizige internationale, nicht britische Journalist an den Tagen meiner Observation. Mit der Behauptung unseres Kontakts beginnt tatsächlich eine neue Recherche. Ihre Behauptung steht hier als Zitat, ein seltener Gang zu der Gemeinschaft, über die man gerne redet, aber selten nachfragt. Ich empfehle aber das Lesen des ganzen Kommentars Nadifa Mohammeds im Guardian http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/mar/10/opposition-female-genital-mutilation-fgm-prejudice.
Der Vorwurf ich sei überwältigt stimmt nicht. Wahrscheinlich kenne ich das Thema länger als Schwartz selber, denn ich befasste mich damit zum ersten mal während meinem Studium an der School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), und das ist nun ganze 22 Jahre her. Zusätzlich verfolge ich natürlich als jüdischer Mensch die Debatte der Beschneidung von Männern (bitte mir jetzt nicht gleich erzählen, dass lasse sich nicht vergleichen, weil ich das nicht gesagt habe, doch wenn es um die Unversehrtheit des kindlichen Körpers geht, und des Menschenrechtes des Kindes ist es juristisch gesehen schon gleich). Ich habe nicht nur die Times gelesen, wie sie Schwartz mir vor den Augen hält, sondern die gesamte Akte der Eingaben beim britischen Untersuchungsausschuss. Wer Statistiken will kann sie ganz leicht finden, sie müssen nicht wiederholt werden, man sollte aber schon eine Stimme bringen dürfen, die diese zumindest etwas hinterfragt, ohne übrigens den Eingriff befürzuworteten. Unser Kontakt sprach sich eher gegen die Bevormundung und Annahmen aus, alle Frauen mit somalischen Familienhintergrund seien gleich betroffen, wie sie die Arbeit von NGOs wie Saida in Burkina Faso legitimieren. Unser Kontakt will sagen, wir sind uns der Debatte bewusst, und durchaus in der Lage sie mitzuführen.

But when it comes to the integrity of the child’s body, and the human right of the childit is legally speaking the same). Not only did I read the Times, as Schwartz puts under my nose, but the entire record of submissions to British committee of inquiry. Whoever wants statistics can easily find them, they must not be repeated But it should be allowed to to include the voice of someone questioning the stats.

She isn’t at that approving of the practice. Our contact defended herself much more against the paternalism and the assumption, that all women of Somali family background are the same and equally affected, for sure this would legitimize the work of any NGO, such as Saida in Burkina Faso. Our contact expresses awareness of the debate, and that the community is quite capable to participate in the debate.
